01-05-2011 The Jewish Defence League of Canada is organizing a rally in Toronto for the English Defence League, a right-wing anti-Muslim group that has been linked to violence in Britain.
The “support rally” will be held at the Toronto Zionist Centre on Tuesday, January 11.
Obviously JDL Canada has every right to hold this rally and their views, although repugnant, are a minority even within the Jewish community. However, holding the rally seemingly goes against JDL Canada’s own mission statement, which on their website reads as follows:
The Jewish Defence League of Canada is committed to the restoration of pride and integrity to the Jewish People, the return of Jewish values, the reclamation of the Jewish sense of Justice and the abolition of hatred and bigotry.
How vilifying Muslims accomplishes any of those goals is beyond me.
