Venezuela's Capriles wins primary, seeks to beat Chavez
Venezuelan opposition leader Henrique Capriles easily won a primary election on Sunday to become the unity candidate against President Hugo Chavez, vowing to end 13 years of socialist rule that he said has left the OPEC nation in crisis.
Capriles' candidacy had a firm start as unexpectedly high participation of nearly 3 million people in the primary vote signaled the opposition can mobilize supporters ahead of the October 7 presidential election.
The 39-year-old, center-left state governor's bid was further bolstered by a show of unity among other candidates from the opposition, which for years suffered from internal disputes that ultimately benefited Chavez.
Yet with Chavez riding high in polls, still popular among the poor and spending massively on welfare projects, Capriles will need to go beyond the vague promises and feel-good factor of his primary campaign if he is to unseat the president.
"This is about the unity of all Venezuelans that want progress," Capriles told thousands of cheering supporters gathered outside his campaign headquarters on Sunday night.
"We have a country in crisis and a government dedicated only to partisan politics."
His strong showing, winning 62 percent of the primary vote, will likely lift Venezuelan bonds, which react well to any news suggesting a change from Chavez's state-centered economic model.
"This result is still market positive as the opposition showed mobilization capacity and empowered the candidate," wrote Goldman Sachs analyst Alberto Ramos.
Venezuelan bonds, among the most highly traded emerging market securities, rose following Chavez's cancer diagnosis last year but slipped again as the former soldier staged what appeared to be quick recovery.
NEW FACE
Part of a new guard of young opposition leaders, Capriles has cast himself as a fresh face in a country dominated by Chavez's militant leftism and constant confrontation.
The grandson of Polish fugitives from Nazi persecution, Capriles says he admires Brazil's "modern left" economic model, which has helped pull tens of millions of people out of poverty through a mix of state spending and respect for private enterprise.

Re: Venezulea's presidential candidate descends from ...
I’ve followed this little Jew Capriles for years. Venezuela’s rich elitists groomed him, dressed him, and paraded him on TV constantly (elitists control all but one TV channels, and most of the newspapers). Young urban-dwelling Venezuelan girls think he’s oh-so-“hot,” and the media promote this “sexy” image at every turn. Plus, he’s rich.
Capriles’ rhetoric mirrors that of rich elitists everywhere: “Only through me can you join the rich.” The reality is the opposite. And naturally he is a staunch supporter of Israel, imperialism, the “war on terror” – etc.
Does he have a chance? That depends on Venezuela’s poor and rural dwellers. They know what this Jew fucker is, but unless they vote, they might let him in.
Unlike most other nations, Venezuela use paper ballots, and actually counts them, which is one reason why Chavez has stayed in power. If the elitists had electronic voting machines (like elitists do in Europe and North America) then they would have gotten rid of Chavez years ago.
Will the poor and rural dwellers come out to vote in sufficient numbers to stop this Jew Capriles? That depends on how they perceive the current government. Venezuela’s constitution does not allow the nation to become 100 percent socialist, but Venezuela is sufficiently socialist to suffer from bureaucracy. If you want to do anything, you must get your papers stamped by ten different agencies, each of which has its own roadblocks. Even Chavez must battle this. You can’t easily bribe bureaucrats, since the bureaucrats compete with each other and monitor each other. And at each agency the ruling bureaucrat will only stamp your papers if he or she thinks that doing so will maintain or improve his / her personal power in the bureaucracy. (The other extreme is capitalist nations, where you are even MORE handcuffed – unless you are very rich.)
Capriles’ task is to seduce the poor and rural dwellers into thinking that with Capriles, they can all bypass the bureaucracy. This is a total lie, of course, but rich elitists and right-wing shit-heads know that the masses do not respond to honesty, logic, facts, or reason. The rich own the media and corporations, and they know that the masses respond to catch-phrases and hot-button slogans – UNLESS the masses are in extreme pain, in which case the masses actually vote to improve their situation.
THE QUESTION is whether Chavez has improved the condition of the poor and urban dwellers to the point where they have become as stupid as the masses in Europe and North America, who always vote to increase their poverty. This remains to be seen. One thing is certain: if the Jew Capriles wins the election, then Venezuela’s urban poor and rural dwellers will be doomed.
Incidentally, these problems of socialist bureaucracy and capitalist plutocracy are perennial. If any nation overcomes them (e.g. Nazi Germany), then the socialist and capitalist nations gang up against that nation, and vilify it for all eternity.

Full name is Henrique Capriles Radonski

Re: Venezulea's presidential candidate descends from ...
Yes, wikipedia claims that, "Capriles is Catholic, having become religious while in prison.”
Bullshit.
First, Radonski never misses an opportunity to claim that he is descended from Jewish survivors of the holo-hoax.
Second, Radonski participated in the failed US coup against Chavez (April 2002), and claims to have “converted” to Catholicism while serving 120 days in jail for the coup. That is, he hates Chavez, and when Chavez put him in jail, he “converted” to the religion of Chavez.
Only morons believe such lies.
