Israeli military to "draft" Orthodox Jews

It's the same in Israel as everywhere else. As rich Israelis grab more power by imposing austerity on middle class Israelis, the rich are devising new ways to make the peasants fight each other -- rather than unite against the rich.

The latest trick involves military conscription, which is mandatory for all Israeli males and (unmarried) females over the age of 18, except for Israelis who have enough money or political connections to avoid the draft. It is three years for men and two years for women.

Israeli celebrities evade the draft by pulling tricks. For example, female Israeli model Bar Refaeli married a friend of her parents a several days before her recruitment day, received an exemption from the military, and divorced soon thereafter. This is acceptable for celebrities.

Wikipedia claims that Arab citizens are exempted. This is not true. Non-Palestinian Arab males and females get draft letters from the Israeli government. Some Israeli Arabs are religiously Jewish (e.g. Yemenite Jews).

Bedouin Arabs and Ethiopian Jews volunteer for military service, since white Jews won’t let them have civilian jobs. These volunteers absorb bullets for the Chosen whenever Israel embarks on a war of aggression (e.g. the 2006 invasion and bombardment of Lebanon).

Conscientious objectors must serve time in a military jail. Their sentence depends on how much money they have, and what political connections they have.

Haredi Jews (i.e. ultra-orthodox) can evade the draft if they enroll in a Yeshiva (religious school). Female religious Jews cannot enroll in Yeshivas, but they can evade the draft by presenting "religious declaration" to the military authorities.
 
Regular Jews have long been angry that Haredi Jews are exempt. Haredi Jews hold the balance of power (i.e. key swing votes) in Israel's fractious, multi-party political system, and they use political games to win outsized budgets for their Orthodox institutions, plus subsidies for their people, many of whom do not work.

On 31 July 2012, Israeli Defense Minister (and career terrorist) Ehud Barak announced that Haredi Jews would no longer be exempt. Mr. Barak did not give an exact date as to when the exemption would end. He threw it out because the Israeli government is preparing to crush the Israeli masses with austerity.

Since mainstream Israelis already hold demonstrations against Haredi Jews, Mr. Barak’s announcement will keep average Israelis fighting each other, rather than uniting against the Israeli One Percent.

Haredi leader Meir Porush says his people will unleash a "civil war." Haredi activist Shmuel Poppenheim says his people will all go to jail, rather that serve. Hardei Jews are now marching in angry protest, their arms handcuffed together.

Against them, mainstream Jews also march in angry protest, demanding that the draft exemption be terminated. Some hand out fake draft notices in Orthodox neighborhoods.

Above both camps, the Israeli One Percent laughs with amusement. The Israeli military does not need tens of thousands of ill-trained and unskilled Haredi Jews in their ranks. Indeed, the size of the Israeli army has been cut in recent years as manpower needs recede. (The specific numbers are classified.) Just like the USA and NATO countries, Israel now uses drones, assassins, Special Forces death squads, and hired Al-Qaeda-type mercenaries. Fewer boots are needed on the ground. Why invade an enemy nation when you can pay Islamist terrorists to destroy the enemy nation for you, e.g. Syria? And since idiot "progressives" think that your enemies are "evil dictators" who must be killed, so much the better. The "evil dictators" are socialists who oppose imperialism, Zionism, and rapacious capitalism. Why legitimize them by sending your regular army to invade them? Let your mercenary terrorists and idiot "progressives" do the work for Israel, and for the global One Percent.

Haredi Jews have been exempt since 1948 under the Tal Law, which must be periodically renewed. In February 2012 the Israeli Supreme Court ruled that the current law should not be renewed. Mr. Barak made his announcement just hours before the current law expired at midnight on 1 Aug 2012.

How many Haredi Jews will actually be drafted? Perhaps none. Israeli does not need them, but Israeli politicians will use the issue to keep the masses distracted. At the moment, the Knesset is in recess until October.

The largest coalition partner of Netanyahu’s Likud Party is the Kadima Party. Last month, when Kadima members heard that Hardei Jews would no longer be exempted, the Kadima Party broke from the coalition, and allied with Orthodox Jews in the Knesset, in a bid for power. The bid will fail, since average Jews want the exemption to end, but will keep the distraction going.

It’s all for show. A true opposition party would fight the austerity being imposed by the Israeli One Percent. However, politicians in Israel are like politicians everywhere else. They are on the One Percent’s payroll.

As I noted in a previous post, austerity is unnecessary for Israel and all other monetarily sovereign nations. Austerity is a scam. It is simply a means for bankers, financiers, and the One Percent to grab more power over the masses.

Fortunately for the One Percent, very few people among the masses understand this, whether they are Jews or non-Jews.
