Israelis should leave the West Bank, Gaza alone

The indignation surrounding Helen Thomas is contrived. Thomas' remarks that Jews leave Palestine is in recognition of the illegality of the Jewish emigrants in the West Bank. To defend these illegal “settlers” by reference to the Holocaust is spurious because Palestinians had no part in the anti-Semitism that led to the Holocaust or its aftermath under Nazi Germany and its allies. Israel is and should be a recognized fact, but that does not give Zionists the right to consume neighboring Palestine.

Any reasonable person should see that the Zionist intent is to populate the West Bank with so many Jews that it will become Jewish. Surely Israelis are no more interested in becoming Palestinian citizens than Europeans were in becoming members of Native American tribes. Any legal justification derived from an old book, however venerated, is ludicrous.

In a related matter, I see terrorism in rockets launched into Israel, but I see greater terrorism in the Israeli bombing of Gaza using modern military might. At least the Palestinians are trying to liberate their own country from an occupying foreign power that one suspects is trying to drive them from their homeland.
