Anders Behring Breivik is not an anti-semite. That’s what makes my head spin. If the translations of his writings that I’ve read are accurate, he might even be a pro-Israel, philo-Semitic racist Nazi.

His fame slowly extended into the upper reaches of Israeli society, with the help of savvy assistants who cultivate celebrities and reporters. His name was whispered like that of a rock star among the upper-class Israelis that encompassed politicians, businessmen and celebrities in Israel and the U.S. The U.S. economy, Pinto predicted in an aside, "is on its way up."

On 18 June '11, an army force came to a petrol station at the entrance to the West Bank village of Beit 'Ummar, which lies north of Hebron and arrested a youth from the village who works at the station, for allegedly throwing stones. His cousin, Rami Abu Mariah, who was there, intervened and spoke to the force commander to try and stop the arrest. The commander, a First Lieutenant, pushed him back, loaded his weapon and directed it straight at Abu Mariah's face. Muhammad 'Awwad, a B'Tselem volunteer who lives in the village, documented the incident on video.

At the behest of Tel Aviv and Washington, Greek authorities stopped a small flotilla from sailing to Gaza in a challenge to Israel’s four-year blockade of the narrow strip of land and its 1.6 million people. Now, apologists for Israel’s right-wing Likud government are heaping scorn on the passengers, as Ray McGovern notes.

Three Israeli Navy combat ships have surrounded the only vessel of the Freedom Flotilla trying to break the naval blockade of Gaza. Other ships from the humanitarian mission were detained earlier in Greece.
The French yacht Dignity al-Karama with sixteen activists, crew members and journalists onboard was stopped en route to the Gaza Strip. The ship had intended to reach its destination by Tuesday afternoon.
Israel demanded that the ship turn and sail to Israel's Ashdod port or to Egypt, a military spokesman said. According to sources on the boat, the military say marines will raid the ship if it attempts to proceed.

Murdoch’s sudden massive reversal of fortune -- with 10 top former staffers and executives under arrest in Britain for hacking into the phones of public figures and a murdered schoolgirl, and paying off the police and journalists -- has supporters of Israel worried that a diminished Murdoch presence may mute the strongly pro-Israel voice of many of the publications he owns.

The Fine Gael/Labour government has dumped Fianna Fail’s critical attitude to Israeli excesses and instead turns a blind eye, even as Israeli Special Forces sabotage the MV Saoirse, threatening the lives of Irish citizens in the Gaza relief flotilla. The government response has been about as terrifying as the proverbial dead sheep.

The Pew Poll did ask the litmus test question, "Is the state of Israel the fulfillment of Biblical Prophesy?" The fact that 42% said "no" was a surprise and strongly suggests that at least 42% of Evangelicals polled are not Christian Zionists...This is a sign that Evangelicals are waking up, especially those outside of the U.S.! Perhaps it reflects the growing revulsion for the brutal acts carried out by Israel against its neighbors.

The behavior of the Greek Government, surely a reflection of its precarious financial and political situation, also violates the law of the sea: foreign flagged vessels can be detained in port only if they are acting in violation of national law or are proven to be unseaworthy and dangerous to international navigation. Otherwise, interference by detention or by seizing while en route within Greek territorial waters is an unlawful interference with the right of innocent passage. Greece would be very vulnerable to defeat and damages if the Freedom Flotilla victims of these encroachment on rights were to have recourse to the Hamburg International Tribunal for Law of the Sea.

Greece has banned a humanitarian aid flotilla - destined for Gaza - from leaving its ports and arrested one of the captains. The authorities accuse the vessels - with hundreds of activists on board - of departing without permission. Campaigners have suggested the Greek government gave in to pressure from the US and Israel, who they accuse of trying to 'sabotage their mission'.The flotilla is drawing parallels to a similar Gaza-bound convoy that was stormed by Israeli marines last May, resulting in the deaths of nine Turkish activists. But as RT's correspondent reports, from one of the seized ships, lawyers are calling Athens' actions unlawful and that activists hope justice will prevail.
