Oak Park is a community which borders Detroit. It has a high crime rate and higher than average home foreclosure rate with many abandoned homes.

In spite of these factors that drain the local government's municipal piggy bank, the city has chosen to spend its shrinking revenue dollars to throw the book at a resident who planted vegetables in her front yard, which help feed her family.

Are the patients running the city hall insane asylum in Oak Park Michigan?

In March 2003, Dr. Aafia and her three children, Ahmad (boy), six years old and an American citizen, Maryum (girl), four years old and also an American citizen, and Suleman (boy), six months old, kidnapped by unknown authorities in Karachi, Pakistan. On March 31, 2003 it was reported by the Pakistani media that Dr. Aafia had been arrested and turned over to representatives of the United States. In early April, this was confirmed on NBC Nightly News, among other media outlets. There was communication to the mother of Dr. Aafia from purported “agencies” that the family members should be quiet if they want to see Aafia returned alive. By the year 2008, many believed that after five years of being disappeared Dr. Aafia and her three children were most likely dead.

In a move akin to the four-year-long economic blockade against the occupied Gaza Strip, Israeli soldiers have closed the six entrances to the village of 17,000 inhabitants and have imposed a widespread prohibition policy against all major imports and exports from the village -- including gasoline, produce, raw industrial materials and basic supplies. Ambulances have also been prevented from entering or exiting the village.

George W. Bush was forced to cancel a trip to Switzerland this week over concerns of protests linked to the Bush adminstration's treatment of detainees.  Bush was to address a Jewish charity in Switzerland.

Bush spokesman David Sherzer said the former president was informed Friday by the United Israel Appeal that his Feb. 12 dinner speech in Geneva had been called off. Saturday's edition of the Tribune de Geneve quoted the Jewish charity's lawyer, Robert Equey, as saying the visit was canceled because of the risk that protests by left-wing groups could result in violence.

Christian and Jewish groups, led by Pastor John Hagee’s Christians United for Israel(CUFI) and (Jewish) StandWithUs began alerting their supporters worldwide, asking them to send email messages to King County Council members and to the Metro bus company.  Other groups included the American Jewish Committee, the Federation of Greater Seattle, the ADL, and the metropolitan Seattle community’s rabbis, synagogues, and organizations.  Stand With Us managed to get a media poll pulled which showed too many votes in favor of the ads.

In research published in the Journal of Transportation Security, physicists Leon Kaufman and Joseph W. Carlson of the University of California San Francisco say body scanner machines can easily be duped.

While the purpose of the scanners is to find contraband hidden on the body, some weapons and explosives would not be visible to the devices say the researchers, who are known for their work in creating magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines used in hospitals.

After the events of 9/11, all flight attendants were fingerprinted and received a new and thorough FBI background check.

Applicants applying to the TSA do not go through such an investigation. They receive a CREDIT CHECK, according to a former TSA agent, who's now commercial airline pilot.

A flight attendant and cancer survivor has revealed her horror at being forced to show her prosthetic breast to a security agent during a pat-down at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.

Cathy Bossi from South Charlotte has been a flight attendant for over 30 years and has worked for U.S. Airways for the past 28  years.

Observers say the situation in Jerusalem is likely to explode in light of a decision by Israeli occupation authorities to demolish hundreds of Palestinian homes in the city...Jerusalem attorney Ahmed Al-Roweidi said in a press release on Thursday that more than 20,000 homes in Jerusalem will be affected by decisions made in Israeli courts, adding that demolition orders against these homes would require 100,000 Palestinians to be ejected from their homes in an attempt to attract more Jewish settlers to reside in new settlements.

As a Security Consultant and Chairman of the Chertoff Group, one of his main clients is Rapiscan, a manufacturer of these devices.

Last year, the Department of Homeland Security awarded contracts of US$160 million each to two manufacturers of these back-scattering devices, one which which was Rapiscan.

It's been just a couple of days since a Senate panel was told by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano...that "domestic radicalization" had become more pronounced. Napolitano  warned  that "a new and changing facet of the terrorist threat comes from homegrown terrorists."

It didn't take the FBI long to jump right in and raid the Minneapolis homes of five antiwar activists, including three leaders of the Twin Cities peace movement, Friday morning as part of what it called a probe of "activities concerning the material support of terrorism."

A female Pakistani scientist has been sentenced to 86 years in prison.  Aafia Siddiqui's sentence was handed down by a federal New York court on Thursday.

"It is my judgement that Dr Siddiqui is sentenced to a period of incarceration of 86 years," Judge Richard Berman said.

Siddiqui denounced the trial and said an appeal would be "a waste of time. I appeal to God".

The showing of the movie " Gasland", a film critical of natural gas drilling, was among events on a list called "dates of interest" in an official intelligence bulletin from the Pennsylvania Office of Homeland Security sent to local law enforcement statewide. But the discovery that the state was keeping tabs on a long list of peaceful groups stunned Pennsylvania's governor, who ordered an immediate stop to it.
