KIDNAPPING

The Long, Violent Arm of the Rabbinical Court

The victim's name shows up in a 2008 public notice from the High Rabbinical Court of Jerusalem. Placed in religious publications in Israel and abroad, the notice forbids community members from doing business with Mr Briskman, allowing him to study in a Jewish seminary or giving him a place to stay. Under the headline "Wanted," it calls upon the public to notify the court of Briskman's whereabouts.

Mr Briskman was allegedly told he would be buried alive in Pennsylvania's Pocono Mountains if he did not grant the divorce, and a dark body bag was hauled  into the room.

Interview with Ken O'Keefe

The world is full of illusions that are used by the rich and powerful to manipulate and control the people. The greatest illusion, and the one with the most devastating consequences, is that the American people and the Israeli, and the British, and numerous others, vote in their governments and hold them to account. Those who really control the governments are those powerful few who control the banking systems, the major multi-national corporations and, of course, the mass media. If you look beyond the faces of the presidents, prime ministers and politicians you will see that these governments' policies remain virtually the same, no matter who is 'leading' these countries. These 'leaders' do not answer to the people they have pledged to serve; they answer to those who remain behind the scenes.

Boats reach Gaza despite blockade

Human rights activists reach Hamas-ruled strip by sea, despite Israeli blockade.

Two vessels carrying 46 international human rights activists have reached the Gaza Strip, despite Israel's strict 14-month siege of the Palestinian territory.

The end of the mission to symbolically break the siege came after Israel backed down from an earlier warning to the 'Free Gaza' protest group not to breach the blockade.

Al Jazeera's Ashraf Amritti in Gaza said: "The arrival of these two boats is a very symbolic gesture for the Palestinian cause, to end the siege, end the occupation.

In fact, those phrases are written across the peace boats which carry flags from more than 70 nationalities."

Free Dr. Siddiqui, UK demonstrators say

A demonstration was held outside the US Embassy in London on Sunday to call for the repatriation of Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.

The demonstrators say Dr. Siddiqui was unjustly convicted of attempted murder at her trial in New York.

The sentencing of Siddiqui, who was accused and found guilty of attempted murder of US agents in Afghanistan in a controversial trial, has been postponed to next month.

Saddiqui's two youngest children, who were three months old and four years old when captured and taken into detention, are still missing.

Ashkenazi takes pride in flotilla attack

Israel's army chief has defended Tel Aviv's deadly attack on the Gaza-bound aid flotilla in late May as 'proportionate and correct.'

Ashkenazi's claim that the flotilla activists initiated the attack comes as no guns were found aboard the ship.

Turkish post-mortem examinations have revealed that a total of 30 bullets were found in the bodies of the nine dead activists. One of the activists had been shot four times in the head.

Robert Fisk: The truth behind the Israeli propaganda

I have, of course, been outraged at armed men boarding ships in international waters, killing passengers on board who attempt to resist and then forcing their ship to the hijackers' home port. I am, of course, talking about the Somali pirates who are preying on Western ships in the Indian Ocean. How dare those terrorists dare to touch our unarmed vessels on the high seas? And how right we are to have our warships there to prevent such terrorist acts.

Rise people, rise: call for zero tolerance of Israeli crimes

Rich Wiles views Israel’s murder of peace activists aboard the Gaza-bound international aid flotilla against the background of a long history of Israeli crimes against the Palestinians. He reminds us that, even as the world was mourning the murder of the peace activists, Israeli soldiers and settlers continued to murder Palestinians.

Iraq Becoming Center Of Kidnapping, Prostitution, And Human Trafficking

URUKNet April 24, 2010 - The State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, And Labor recently released a report on the human rights situation in Iraq that also included a section on crime. As reported before, with violence declining in Iraq, crime is becoming a more pressing issue within the country. In fact, the two are directly related. Many criminals joined the insurgency and militias, and now that both of those are in the decline, many militiamen and insurgents are joining their outlaw brethren to make a living. The State Department noted a number of growing problems in the country ranging from kidnappings to trafficking in human beings and organs.
