Stepped-up efforts within Canada and around the world are needed to combat rising anti-Semitism, says an international declaration designed to stamp out the "most enduring of all hatreds."

The declaration, known as the Ottawa Protocol, was released yesterday after a two-day meeting of parliamentarians and experts from about four dozen countries in Ottawa.

"We are alarmed by the explosion of anti-Semitism and hate on the Internet, a medium crucial for the promotion and protection of freedom of expression, freedom of information and the participation of a civil society," the declaration says.

Remember Vicki Polin, the Satanic Ritual Abuse (SRA) survivor, who was interviewed in 1989 on the Oprah show?  Polin told her story of being raised in a Jewish family that engaged in human sacrifice and cannibalism going back as far as the 1700's.  She also stated that there are other Jewish families across the country that engage in these rituals.  Polin was recently honored as a Jewish Community Hero by the Jewish Federations of North America for her work with Jewish survivors of sexual and ritual abuse. 

This segment almost cost Oprah her job.  She was taken to task by David Letterman, among others.  Because of Letterman's actions, she stopped speaking to him and kept her distance for the next 16 years.

After the show, Harpo productions received thousands of calls expressing outrage.  Harriet Brady (nee Bookey) who was well connected with the Jewish community in Chicago offered to help Oprah.  Within hours she was on the phone to her good friend Abraham Lincoln Marovitz, a federal judge whose contacts extended into every segment of society.  A meeting was arranged at Brady's condo with local Jewish leaders.

Oprah was sufficiently contrite and vowed never again to broadcast a show on devil worship. She agreed to reach out to B’nai B’rith, which fights anti-Semitism and racism, whenever her show focused on those subjects, and she promised to exercise better judgment in selecting her guests.

The opinion poll revealed the number of Americans who think the US needs to support Israel dropped to 51 percent in July from 58 percent in June and 63 percent in August 2009.

In Germany, 50 percent of the respondents said they had "very cold" or unfavorable feelings toward Israel, compared with 39 percent who said they experienced "cold" or "very cold" feelings toward Palestinians.

In Sweden, the situation was similar to that in Germany, with 49 percent saying their feelings toward Israel were "cold" or "very cold."

In France, those sympathizing with Israel did not go beyond 24 percent and the number, though narrowly, was outweighed by 31 percent who said that felt "cold" or "very cold" feelings toward it.

Back when Rand Paul called himself "Randy," while he was attending Baylor, he apparently joined a "secret society" called the NoZe Brotherhood, according to Jason Zengerle, reporting for GQ. This group was made up of Baylor's more liberal students, and they committed pranks and published a satirical newspaper, as college students will do.

They also, according to a fellow NoZe Brother, "aspired to blasphemy," which sounds pretty good to me but may not go over all that well in Kentucky, the state Paul would like to represent in the U.S. Senate.

On June 11, 2010, Idaho lawyer Edgar J. Steele was arrested on murder-for-hire charges. According to prosecutors, Mr. Steele hired his handyman Larry Fairfax to kill his wife Cyndi and his mother-in-law. Steele is an intelligent, educated man; Fairfax is a bankrupt failed logger who turned out to be a federal drug informant.
