Israeli troops have taken control of an aid ship trying to break the blockade of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military says soldiers boarded the Irish-owned vessel from the sea and did not meet any resistance.
It says the ship is now being taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod. There has been no word from those on board.
It comes days after nine people died in clashes when Israel troops boarded a Turkish aid ship, triggering international condemnation.

JERUSALEM, June 5 (Reuters) - The Israeli navy prepared to board another aid ship bound for Gaza on Saturday, as Washington condemned as "unsustainable" a blockade which Israel enforced earlier in the week by killing 9 people aboard a Turkish vessel.
Irish and other activists on the Rachel Corrie ignored orders to divert to Israel's Ashdod port. Should it continue to approach the Palestinian enclave, the navy would board the vessel, an Israeli military spokeswoman said.

The NY Times Jerusalem Bureau Chief, whose objectivity was cast into doubt because his son actively serves in the IDF, has just published a detailed article on the flotilla massacre.
The second paragraph jumps off the page:
The crack of an Israeli sound grenade and a hail of rubber bullets from above were supposed to disperse activists, but instead set them into motion. And when three Israeli commandos slid down ropes out of helicopters to take over the ship, a crowd set upon them.

Flotilla 13, or Shayetet 13 in Hebrew, is considered one of the Israeli army’s elite special force units. It was formed in 1949 based on the naval brigade of the Haganah Jewish terrorist group, a group which operated against the British mandate in Palestine and was responsible for numerous grave acts of terrorism against the British and the Arabs inside Palestine and beyond.

Israel’s boarding and seizure of the Mavi Marmara, a Turkish ship in the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, has sparked debate and outrage world wide. Media, pundits, and politicians, despite a real lack of facts and hard information, have lept to alternately defend and condemn Israel, Turkey has withdrawn its ambassador, and Israel has urged sympathizers to its defense on internet forums. As usual, when it comes to the always-contentious Jewish State, the entire world is just itching for a fight.

Has Israel lost it? Can the Gaza War of 2008-09 (1,300 dead) and the Lebanon War of 2006 (1,006 dead) and all the other wars and now yesterday's killings mean that the world will no longer accept Israel's rule?

Of course the peace flotilla will not bring peace, and it won't even manage to reach the Gaza shore. The action plan has included dragging the ships to Ashdod port, but it has again dragged us to the shores of stupidity and wrongdoing.
