Before posting and/or commenting here on WUFYS...

WUFYS is a community site. In order to make the site as easy to use for everyone, and to reduce the amount of work the admins have to do, all members are asked to take the following into account when posting or commenting on this site:

Give your posts a meaningful title

This helps others navigate the site easily and improves the overall look of the site.  New comments are automatically given a subject made up of 'Re:' and the title of the post being commented on.

Reposting material from other sites

Always credit the work of others. If you are reposting material from other sites, please provide a link to the source along with a clear indication of where it comes from. One link to one source is all that is needed.  

Please do not link to material on your own personal sites unless you authored the material in question. Link to the original source only. The purpose of this site is not to drive traffic to yours.

If the material is from commercial news organisations, or any site displaying a copyright notice, please do not copy the complete piece but cite relevant parts, allowing others to read the full piece using the link. This helps us and you to avoid any potential problems over copyright. On the other hand, make sure there is some body content in your posts.

If a piece you are posting is date-sensitive, please add the date of the original at the bottom of the post, with the date written in a form that can easily be deciphered by anyone, i.e. give the short spelling of the month and the full year or using the YYYY-MM-DD ISO format. This is an international site and as such dates should be presented in an easily understood format. If you have some sort of religious attachment to your nation's date format, that is just too bad.

Images / Videos

Images from many sites expire after a certain period of time or are designed not to be visible when hotlinked. If you want your images to appear on the site, please host them using a photo-hosting site such as imageshack or photobucket. Do include in your posts images hosted on other sites, particularly if they are commercial news sites. This is considered at the very minimum to be bandwidth theft. Most commercial photo news agencies take serious umbrage at their images being used on unauthorised sites.

Please resize images or videos so that they are no more than 600 pixels wide.

Copying and pasting

Please don't just copy and paste from other sites as this copies the HTML formatting used on the source site which can (and often does) muck with the formatting on this site.

The best option is to use the 'Paste Text' button oand then add formatting to the post using the buttons on the toolbar. Yes, it takes time, but if it material is worth posting here, it is worth spending a little time on it.

If the material you are copying contains links such as 'Email Author', 'Related Links' inline adverts or other such superflous text, please tidy it up before posting.

Bumping

Please don't bump blog posts by short or off-topic comments. Comments that are little more than "me too" or "I agree" are considered bumping. Such comments may be deleted at the discretion of the moderators, as they contribute little or nothing to the debate and unnecessarily use up our storage space and bandwidth.

Note that we do not generally engage in censorship, except where third-party legal action may result from our failure to do so. However, the site administrators reserve the right to edit posts to bring them into compliance with these simple and unobtrusive rules as such edits do not change in any way the substance of posts.
