In a statement issued during the eleventh summit of the organization, the nine members of the ALBA bloc (Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America) rejected on Sunday the "systematic policy of interference and destabilization" that seeks to "impose by force on the Syrian people a regime change."
The ALBA resolution condemns the "acts of armed violence that paramilitary groups supported by foreign powers have unleashed against the Syrian people."
The heads of States members of the organization for Latin American integration have further lent support to the "national reform process initiated by the government of President Bashar al-Assad," who seeks a "political solution to the current crisis respectful of the Syrian people’s sovereignty and the territorial integrity of that Arab country."
The Atlanticist and Gulf States, and their communication relays, accuse the Syrian government of brutally quelling peaceful protests. On the other hand, the Syrian government maintains that these same countries have been sponsoring the armed groups responsible for the sabotage operations occurring in the country, which have killed several thousand citizens, both civilian and military. The Arab League monitors have disqualified their own governments’s accusations and to a large extent validated the Syrian’s Governments version of events.
While the cynicism underpinning the destabilization strategy underway may leave many Europeans incredulous, the same does not apply in the case of Latin America. There, the role of the "Contras" is still fresh in people’s minds, and the parallel with the Syrian situation is readily established.
These armed groups (in Spanish: "Counter-Revolutionary") were sponsored and trained first by the Argentinian dictatorship, acting as a sub-contractor, then directly by the Carter and Reagan administrations to overthrow the socialist government of Nicaragua during the 1980’s. They launched raids targeting the economy and the population of Nicaragua from rear bases located in Honduras.
This phony civil war, orchestrated by the United States against a sovereign state and a people, is estimated to have caused 57 000 casualties, including 29,000 dead.
On their part, NATO and GCC foreign ministers continue to spew statements against Syria, in their eyes "more isolated than ever."

Strange that Voltaire.net would call the slaughter in Nicaragua a “phony civil war.”
It was a REAL civil war.
On one side was the U.S.-supported Somoza dynasty, which had enslaved the masses (with US help) for 83 years. To protect the dynasty and U.S. corporate interests, the CIA used “Contra” death squads. “Contra” literally means counter-revolutionary.
On the other side were the masses, whose freedom fighters were the “Sandinistas, named after Augusto César Sandino, who led the Nicaraguan resistance against the savage US occupation of Nicaragua in the 1930s. During peace talks, American agents assassinated Sandino on 21 Feb 1934, thereby preserving US corporate interests, and keeping Nicaragua's people in poverty. They also assassinated Sandino's brother, father, two of Sandino’s generals, and the poet Sofonías Salvatierra (who was Minister of Agriculture). The corpses were never found.
In a civil war, one side always has the help of outsiders. Sometimes both sides have outside help. In the case of Nicaragua’s civil war, the “benevolent” Ronald Reagan helped the elitists, causing RIVERS of blood. Carter started it, and Reagan escalated it.
It was the same with El Salvador’s civil war (which the USA won, unlike Nicaragua).
In both cases the CIA trained the death squads, and Israel provided the weapons. In 1982, 83, and 84 the U.S. Congress passed the Boland Amendments, which reduced funding for the CIA’s death squads. Therefore Reagan ordered the CIA to raise money for his El Salvador death squads by engineering the crack cocaine epidemic in U.S. cities. Several U.S. journalists who exposed this were assassinated -- e.g. author Gary Webb, liquidated in Los Angeles on 10 Dec 2004 as penalty for winning a Pulitzer prize, plus many other awards. The U.S. government pronounced Webb’s death a “suicide,” even though Webb was found with two bullet holes in his head.
That was connected with El Salvador. To raise money for his death squads in Nicaragua, Reagan ordered John Poindexter and Oliver North to sell anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles to Iran via Israeli middlemen. In his last days in office, Reagan formally pardoned himself, plus all his criminal agents for this. (Iran-Contra.) Later Reagan developed Alzheimer's and died in a puddle of his own drool and excrement. Elitists pray to him as a saint.
After the USA lost in Nicaragua, the local government instituted a policy of mass literacy, devoted significant resources to health care, and promoted gender equality. Today Nicaragua is the only nation in Central America that Washington does not totally control. What control the US does have is through the Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA). President Ortega was forced to agree to CAFTA to keep the rich happy in Nicaragua, and keep the USA from invading again.
Libya is done. Now it’s Syria’s turn. In Africa, every nation is controlled except Zimbabwe, Eritrea, Northern Sudan, and parts of Somalia. Four nations out of 56.
Some say Algeria is not controlled, but most of the UN “peace-keepers” in Western Sahara (formerly Spanish Sahara) are Algerians. Algeria is controlled.
The Voltaire article mentions that the Arab League’s fact finding monitors disqualified their own governments’ accusations by exposing the truth that the West is supporting terrorists (Libya-style) to get regime change.
This blunder was delightful to watch. The six oil emirates of the GCC (which control the 22-nation Arab League) wanted to use their monitors to create the grounds for the UN Security council to start bombing Syria. But the GCC became over-confident, and chose its puppets poorly. The scam backfired, giving China and Russia an excuse to veto the UN bombing plans. A humiliated Nabil el-Araby (head of the League) immediately shut down the entire operation.
Nabil el-Araby was groomed in the USA, and was installed as Egypt’s new foreign minister on 6 March 2011. On 1 June 2011 he left his post to become the new head of the Arab League. He wants the USA to appoint him as Egypt’s new supreme dictator -- but the Arab League fiasco has angered his Washington handlers. He may get nothing. Now he’s furious with Russia and China. He is also whining that the NATO has not bombed Syria because Syria has no oil, which is a lie. Syria does have oil, but the EU government has cut off all oil imports from Syria. This further squeezes the European masses, preparing them to accept the ultra-super ECB central bank.
Having failed at the UN Security Council, the West and the GCC (led by the Saudis) are now preparing to pass new resolutions against Syria’s government in the UN General Assembly, where there are no vetoes. NATO can use this to start bombing, Libya-style. The vote will be late next week.
U.N. “human rights” chief Navi Pillay wants the International Court of Criminals to issue warrants for Assad and his government (as it did against Qaddafi) – but only the Security Council can refer Syria to the court. Russia and China stand in the way of that.
Ban K. Moon wants NATO to start "humanitarian" bombing. So does his Adviser On Promotion Of Genocide, Francis Deng. So does his Adviser On The Responsibility To Protect, Edward Luck.
Meanwhile the Western / Israeli / GCC-backed terrorists continue to slaughter civilians, while claiming that the government did it. Today they set off two bombs in Aleppo, a commercial center, killing 28 people and wounding 238. The terrorists are angry that the merchant class does not support them. They want to destroy the merchants’ profits. The terrorists also bombed two police stations, killing another 28 civilians, including 9 children playing in a nearby park.
Most nations have expelled Syrian ambassadors, and recalled their own ambassadors from Syria. Turkey sides with NATO, Israel, and the GCC against Syria’s government, but Turkey also relies on Iran for a third of its oil supplies, as well as natural gas, which Turkey needs to keep its industry going. And Iran needs Turkey to keep buying.
As noted by Voltaire.net, the eight ALBA nations in South America support Syria’s government. (Cuba, Ecuador, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Dominica, Antigua / Barbuda, and St. Vincent / Grenadines.) St. Lucia and Suriname will soon join ALBA.
Dominica is not to be confused with the Dominican Republic, which has long been US-controlled, but is gradually slipping out of the US orbit. The 12th ALBA summit will take place in the Dominican Republic.
Honduras was an ALBA member until the USA re-conquered the nation in the coup of June 2009.
The ALBA nations have their own currency called the “Sucre,” but they must tread carefully, as this usually brings a full-scale military attack from the global bankers. At this point it’s a virtual currency, an accounting scheme used for direct trading between the ALBA countries, allowing them to partially circumvent U.S dollar hegemony.
The ALBA summit last Sunday in Caracas also reiterated its support for the Argentinean government in its dispute with the UK over the Malvinas Islands (which the British call the Falklands). England and Argentina both claim they own the islands off Argentina. The British government has little interest in the Malvinas, but the island is one of hundreds of places where the City of London stashes its loot, and the City of London rules the UK.
