Can euro rescue absolve Holocaust guilt?

Sarrazin likes to present himself as Germany's arch provocateur, and his latest book "Europe Doesn't Need the Euro" does not disappoint. He has successfully grabbed attention by saying Germany's euro bailout was "driven by the very German reflex that the Holocaust and World War II will only be finally atoned for when all our other interests, including our money, is in Europe's hands."

Sarrazin says that the after-effects of World War II turned European integration into a "pure ideology" which has made "Germany a hostage" to "anyone in the eurozone who might need help in the future."

But the main purpose of Sarrazin's 400-page book is to undermine the assumptions that underpin the European single currency. He described his argument as a riposte to Chancellor Angela Merkel's claim that "if the euro fails, Europe fails."

The Social Democratic Party member argues that Germany's economic stability, based on a healthy export industry, does not need the euro to thrive, and that financially weaker countries like Greece should simply be cut off from EU aid and left to fend for themselves.

He blames Greece's political class for the country's troubles, accusing the country's politicians of corruption and egotism.

Sarrazin also rejects the idea of introducing "Eurobonds" to re-finance struggling economies as "the ultimate communalisation of financial policy at the expense of financially strong nations."

He calls for two key changes in European Union policy – indebted countries should be allowed to leave the single currency at any time, and eurozone countries should have the freedom to balance their own budgets without EU intervention.

Two heavyweight German politicians - former Finance Minister Peer Steinbrück and his successor Wolfgang Schäuble have dismissed Sarrazin's arguments - as "bullshit" and "appalling nonsense," respectively.

Do you agree with any of Sarrazin's points, or do you think that he is merely using populist pseudo-nationalistic arguments to market his new book? Have your say below.

[1] “Former Bundesbank board member Thilo Sarrazin said the single currency was always a bad idea.”

It's bad for the masses, but wonderful for the rich. In Europe as elsewhere, the gap between rich and poor is extreme, and is further accelerated by the euro currency.

[2] Sarrazin says Germany's euro policy is driven by a holocaust guilt trip.

No, Germany's euro policy is driven by German greed and corruption. German banks are among the biggest players in the Troika tyranny. The ECB itself is based in Frankfurt. Arms makers in Germany (and France and England) sell mountains of weapons to Greece that Greece does not want or need, while paying bribes to Greek politicians so they will allow this. Greek politicians buy the weapons on credit, and they dump the debt on the Greek masses, who are then punished with austerity.  And all the while, the world’s masses blame the victims (blame the Greek masses).

That’s mankind for you. As the masses are herded to the slaughterhouse, they trample anyone who tries to warn them.

Also, Germany opposes “euro-bonds,” since Germany wants to keep putting other nations in debt. “Euro-bonds” would cause Germany to also fall into debt.

I defecate on Germany.

Why does Sarrazin need 400 pages to say that? Any idiot knows that the purpose of the euro project is to centralize all power into the hands of private bankers and bond traders, while destroying social programs and national sovereignty. It’s a step toward a one-world Super Bank that will permanently keep 99% of humanity in global debt slavery.

Agreed, but politicians are equally corrupt in every Western nation. All are on the bankers’ payroll, including the former and current German finance ministers, Peer Steinbrück and Wolfgang Schäuble.

When mass suffering becomes extreme, the bankers purge some of their current politicians, and put some new politicians on the bankers’ payroll. The newer ones pretend to sympathize with the masses, but they serve the private bankers.

An example is Alexis Tsipras of Greece, who tells the masses that Greece must have less austerity, yet he supports the Troika and its euro currency -- which means more austerity. It’s the same with France’s new “leftist” president Francois Hollande. Same with Obama. All are on the payroll of the private bankers.

And yet the masses continue to pray to these satanic bastards as saints. Blessed be Obama!
