Cold winters 'set to continue for 50 years'

Solar experts have painted a grim picture of the future of winter weather in Ireland today.  

At an annual meeting of the American Astronomical Society, scientists have claimed that the sun has broken out of its normal pattern of behaviour.  

Solar activity has "flatlined", and they believe this will bring us Arctic-style winters, similar to those we have seen recently, for many years to come.
