Hooded youths and police swarm Ealing Broadway

Swarms of police have swooped on Ealing Broadway to disperse large groups of youths as riots threaten to spread west across the capital.

Shops, bars and pubs in the Broadway and along Uxbridge Road were asked to shut down earlier this evening around 5pm on police intelligence that violence may erupt in Ealing town centre, in what has become three nights of rioting and looting across London.

"A group of about 30 hooded youths congregated outside Carphone Warehouse but have since dispersed. There's a lot more people around than on a normal Monday night.

"Eye witness reports say another group of youths were spotted hiding in the alleyway near Londis in Bond Street. Apparently police tried to catch them unawares by running through the shop."
