Russia's USAID ban won't be effective - expert

Russia's recently-introduced ban on USAID's activity won't be effective, former head of the Central Bank and director for research of the Higher School of Economics Sergey Aleksashenko told Ekho Moskvy on Wednesday.

"It's impossible to ban USAID's activity, the government can only close the body's office in Russia, but that won't prevent USAID's support for Russian non-governmental organizations," Aleksashenko said.

"Those who introduce such bans do not understand how the today's economy works," the expert added.

USAID may cooperate with Russian civil society, using its representatives in other countries, including Ukraine, Poland or Finland, Aleksashenko explained.

This “economist” is trying to say that Russia’s banning of USAID activities will not hurt the imperialists. This suggests to me that it will indeed hurt the imperialists. The ban will cut money to pro-US organizations in Russia such as Golos, whose function is to sway elections in ways demanded by the USA.

USAID (US Agency for International Development) is the financial arm of the CIA. Over the past 51 years, it has grown into a multi-billion dollar political-cum-military weapon in the hands of the American establishment. USAID’s charter is explicitly serve the foreign policy interests of the United States.

USAID had been operating in Russia since the fall of the USSR, and has already been banned from the ALBA nations (Bolivia, Cuba, Ecuador, Dominica, Nicaragua and Venezuela).

China is also beginning to clamp down on imperialist organizations such as USAID. China is currently amending its laws, and will set clear rules for international NGOs to register on the mainland. China will also strengthen supervision of their activities.
