Israel confirms airstrike on Syria

israel confirmed today that its air force carried out a strike inside Syrian territory on Sept 6.

israel had until now refused to confirm or deny that any air strike took place, though the incident was publicly confirmed by Syrian and Western officials.

israeli officials said the air strike took place deep inside Syria.

Military censors continued to censor other details, including the target, and what kind of forces took part. Diplomats in Damascus say at least four israeli warplanes crossed deep into Syria on Sept 6.

Syrian President Bashar Assad told the BBC yesterday that israeli warplanes attacked an “unused military building” after air defense systems confronted the aircraft. He said Damascus reserves the right to retaliate.

Some U.S. personnel, such as John Bolton, have linked the raid to apparent israeli suspicions of secret nuclear cooperation between Damascus and North Korea.

Damascus and North Korea have denied any nuclear cooperation.

Other reports suggested that the raid may have targeted Iranian arms bound for Hezbollah. One report said it was aimed at testing new Syrian air defences.

Why would Israel confirm such events? Moreover, Why would Zionist owned and controlled MSNBC report this? In other words, what is the benefit to thier masters? Hwy do the Zionist want you to believe that Israel is an aggressive nation?

LatinAmericanview | Tue, 2007-10-02 15:38

do you think this is first time they showed aggression...don't forget pledge from western nations to Israel no matter what Israel does they will stand by it. So when Zionist see media attention being directed away from Iran and Syria even for one day they have to fuel it again for hypnotic pumping of "importance" of Israel's "terrorist" neighborhood. What do you think that Iraq and Afghanistan wars concern them at all...they have sent in their goyim slaves to deal with those two countries but they want more and more and more. Its a tactic of annoying people in west to the extremes until they shout enough already blast those Syrians and Iraqis and stop annoying us with that crap. In a sense it is a psychological torture and you know that people in torture often say and admit to whatever torturer demands from them out of utter need for some relief. You get it?!

Thank you for your comment

Perhaps the israelis admitted they engaged in the airstrike because they can no longer get away with denying it. The event has been confirmed through numerous sources, as was noted in the article above.

However the israelis and the U.S. government continue to censor the exact details of what happened.

At this point we are still piecing information together.

Syria took the correct action in doing nothing to retaliate outside it's territory. Why let the enemy dictate the time and terms of the battle? Let the nations of the world see who the aggressor is, not that anyone thinks that rogue apartheid state without borders or constitution is anything but a provocateur.

Nations have got to stop retaliating when these provocations occur. It is with self control that the high moral ground is gained.

After their defeat at the hands of Hizbullah in Lebanon the Israeli military needed something to boost their sagging morale.

Israelis sent a few aircraft to test Syrian readiness, and the Syrian anti-aircraft systems responded rapidly and Israeli aircraft had to run like hell and get out of there dumping fuel tanks and other load over Turkish and Syrian territory.
The reason official Israel is not boasting about it, which they normally do when they have bombed some poor defenceless Arab country is that this was another setback for them.
The spin on Nuclear co-operation between Syria and North Korea started by Murdoch's Sunday Times and other Neo-con media in the west was to cover up for the defeat suffered over Syria.

All this talk about their capabilities and threats against Syria and Iran are for home consumption and psychological warfare to boost the sagging morale of the Israel army.

Times are a changing and no more will Israel dare beat up another Middle East country. In fact Israel is on the path of self destruction and dis-integration.
The day the Americans pull out of Iraq that will be sunset for Israel.

I agree with you both.

Yes Claymore, it’s impressive that Syria could not be provoked into an automatic response. Cherifa Sirry and Rhiannon have educated me about Syria. The Syrians won’t let this go. Oh no. But Syria will choose its own time and place for a “reckoning.”

Islamservices, I also agree with you. israel is finished as a military power. If the israelis couldn’t defeat Hezbollah, they have no hope against Hezbollah and Syria combined. The israelis become more frightened every day. They are desperate for the USA to attack Iran, so the American Goyim will fight the Iranian Goyim.

Meanwhile, a NEWSWEEK article says this…

Last week, former deputy Defense minister Ephraim Sneh took a NEWSWEEK reporter to the observation deck atop the 50-story Azrieli Center in Tel Aviv. "There is Haifa just over the horizon, Ben-Gurion airport over there, the Defense Ministry down below," he said, to show how small the country is. "You can see in this space the majority of our intellectual, economic, political assets are concentrated. Just one nuclear bomb is enough to wipe out Israel."

Here is a question why would Syria go along with the Iraeli information ban? Hwere are the interviews from the Syria's persepctive? Interesting

IDF lifts censorship on Sept. 6 IAF strike on target inside Syria
By Amir Oren, Haaretz Correspondent

The Israel Defense Forces on Sunday lifted censorship on the fact that the Israel Air Force carried out an air strike against a target deep in Syrian territory on September 6.

In an unusually strict measure, the military censor had prevented Israeli media from reporting on the strike, unless the reports were based on revelations in the foreign press.

The IDF is still maintaining censorship on the details of the air strike, including the target, which troop forces were involved, the success of the strike, and the decision-making process that led up to it.

The censorship was lifted following a Haaretz request, primarily due to the fact that Syrian President Bashar Assad confirmed the air strike in an interview broadcast by the British Broadcasting corp. on Monday. (For more, click here to watch Haaretz.com TV)

Assad told the BBC that Israeli warplanes attacked an unused military building, the first time Syria officially acknowledged an air raid had taken place.

Assad charged that the Israeli airstrike showed that Israel is not interested in making peace. Israel cannot talk about peace and carry out their attacks against a neighboring country, he said.

Assad also said his country does not want nuclear projects, civilian or military. We're not interested in any nuclear activity, he said. We don't even mention a peaceful reactor for electricity.

Previously, Syrian officials had said only that the Israeli warplanes entered the country's airspace, came under fire from anti-aircraft defenses, and dropped munitions and fuel tanks over northeastern Syria to lighten their loads while they fled.

Assad said the raid last month showed Israel's visceral antipathy toward peace.

According to foreign media reports, the air strike apparently targeted a North Korea-built nuclear facility in northeastern Syria. Syria and North Korea, however, have both vehemently denied any nuclear cooperation.
