Senator John McCain said in an interview posted on the Internet on Saturday that the Constitution established the United States as a Christian nation and that his faith is probably of better spiritual guidance than that of a Muslim candidate for president.
"I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, that's a decision the American people would have to make, but personally, I prefer someone who I know who has a solid grounding in my faith," Mr. McCain said in response to a question about the possibility of a Muslim running for president.
The interview was conducted by beliefnet, a Web site that writes extensively about religious issues of virtually every denomination. After the interview, Mr. McCain contacted the Web site to rephrase his remarks, saying, “I would vote for a Muslim if he or she was the candidate best able to lead the country and defend our political values.”
Really, McCain? Would you vote for a Muslim candidate even if he`s best able to lead the country? I don`t know why I find this hard to believe.

this would happen maybe after several black Americans were elected for President...which means never...How ironic that he boast with his religion while involved in war crimes across the world. I would be more proud to be North Korean than American if this is what Americans support today.

Did he not read the following directive in Article VI, Section 3 of the U.S. Constitution...
"The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States."
The Founding Fathers also wrote the First Amendment specifically prohibiting the establishment of religion. They've seen and read the history of the horrors of religious fanaticism and war, particularly the Spanish Inquisition.
John McCain is as fake as George W Bush in stating Christian religion when they are in fact warmongers and condone mass murder to achieve the objectives for the Imperial U.S.
Ron Paul wasn't comfortable stating his religion because it would be an imposition on the people, yet McCain, Romney, Clinton, etc are smug enough to push their Christian religions to gain credibility to bait votes.
George H.W. Bush, himself a fascistic traitor, mass murderer (Gulf War I and Operation Just Cause in Panama invasion 1989) and conspirator of JFK assassination, stated atheists are not patriots or U.S. citizens...
When George Bush was campaigning for the presidency, as incumbent vice-president, one of his stops was in Chicago, Illinois, on August 27, 1987. At O'Hare Airport he held a formal outdoor news conference. There Robert I. Sherman, a reporter for the American Atheist news journal, fully accredited by the state of Illinois and by invitation a participating member of the press corps covering the national candidates, had the following exchange with then-Vice-President Bush.
Sherman: What will you do to win the votes of the Americans who are atheists?
Bush: I guess I'm pretty weak in the atheist community. Faith in God is important to me.
Sherman: Surely you recognize the equal citizenship and patriotism of Americans who are atheists?
Bush: No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God.
Sherman (somewhat taken aback): Do you support as a sound constitutional principle the separation of state and church?
Bush: Yes, I support the separation of church and state. I'm just not very high on atheists.
