MOSCOW - The Jewish community of Russia is worried over a rumor campaign by nationalist parties claiming that Dmitri Medvedev, President Vladimir Putin's handpicked successor, is Jewish.
Russian Jewish leaders declined to comment on the rumors officially, fearing to lend them credibility. Off the record, however, one said: "I pray it isn't true, because it would only make trouble, for him and for us."
Medvedev, who recently told a Russian weekly that he was baptized into the Russian Orthodox Church at age 23, has not commented on these rumors. But Russian Internet sites are full of reports about his alleged Jewish roots.

The rumors are based in part on the fact that his maternal grandfather's first name was Veniamin - similar to the Hebrew Binyamin (Benjamin) - while his family name, Shaposhnikov, is sometimes a Jewish name. But beyond that, accusing an electoral rival of being Jewish is a tactic that nationalist parties have employed in the past, both in Russia and in other former communist countries.
Nikolai Bondarik, who heads the St. Petersburg branch of the nationalist Russian Party, told the Moscow Times on Wednesday "we are categorically against him [Medvedev] because he is an ethnic Jew and does not conceal his sympathies toward Judaism." He also charged that with Medvedev in power, foreigners and Jews would plunder Russia's natural resources; "tens of thousands" of Israelis would be given key positions in bodies such as "the police, army, and secret services"; and Russia's relations with the Arab world would be destroyed.
The Russian Party, which is considered anti-Semitic, is not running in the March 2 presidential election. Due to both Putin's backing and the disqualification of several opposition candidates, Medvedev's victory in the balloting is virtually certain.
Medvedev visited the Jewish Community center in Moscow during the Hanukkah holiday in December, just three days before Putin anointed him as his preferred successor. Thus all the television reports of the new heir presumptive included shots of him surrounded by leaders of the Jewish community, with Hanukkah candles and a Torah in the background.
Jewish community leaders said that Medvedev's visit and the good will he radiated during it encouraged them to hope that his presidency will be good for the community. "Medvedev will be wonderful for the Jews," just as Putin was, declared Israeli-Russian businessman Lev Leviev, who heads the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia.
Yet off the record, several said they feared this good will could create a backlash that would strengthen anti-Semitic currents in Russia.
Asked about Medvedev's alleged Judaism, they declined comment, beyond noting that he identifies himself as a Russian Orthodox Christian.
"The irony," said one, "is that we're doing everything possible to bring Jews back to Judaism, but in this particular case, with the next president, it would be better for the Jewish community if he did not identity himself as Jewish, so as not to draw fire."

Putin and Lev Leviev are close friends and Leviev is the biggest proponent of the illegal settlement of Palestinian land by ziostan. Now Leviev gives his blessing to Medvedev? And the Russian National Party has no candidate?
Protocol 12 - #11
Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion.
This is a long article on Putin's Jewish loyalties. I Eduard Hodos on Vladimir Putin
…I first heard about the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin during an official visit to Israel in 1997. By invitation of the Israeli Foreign Ministry, I, along with then Vice-Governor of Kharkov Oblast Leonid Stasevsky, visited Israel as part of the “Program for Economic Cooperation” between our countries. A busy programme of events awaited us, most of which was dedicated to numerous meetings with representatives of Israel’s political and economic elite. Among them was a planned meeting with the President of the New Entrepreneurs’ Association of Israel, Radoshkovich. At that time former Leningrad emigrant Yitzak Radoshkovich had already become a heavyweight figure not only in his own country, but, according to rumors, in the corridors of the World Bank as well. Our meeting, during the course of which the matter of various investment projects in the Kharkov region was discussed, was extremely official in nature. The same can’t be said about a second meeting with Radoshkovich with whom we, upon returning to the Ukraine, found ourselves in the same airplane. For the entire length of the flight from Tel-Aviv to Kiev we chatted on various topics. And in the course of our chat he mentioned in passing that his second cousin Vladimir Putin had great prospects for advancement in the Russian political elite…By August of 1999 I saw with my own eyes the result of the dizzying career of the theretofore unknown Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin. Let’s refresh our memories on the chronology:
August 1999. Appointed prime-minister of the Russian Federation; January 2000. Appointed Acting President of the Russian Federation; March 2000. Elected President of the Russian Federation.
To what, or rather to whom, was Russia indebted for her “successor to the throne” in the form of Vladimir Putin? We all know to whom — to Boris Abramovich Berezovsky, who built up this new pretender to Russia’s “presidential throne” in record time.
The indomitable Boris Abramovich searched long and hard for a potential “successor”. He took his time… You see, the “successor” would be obligated to preserve Family traditions and guarantee “Tsar Boris” complete immunity after his “abdication”. What’s more, Yeltsin’s “successor” would have to be a paragon of health and youth, in order to differ advantageously from his aged, but very popular rival, Yevgeny Primakov, and also possess the required ethnic characteristics for the Russian “throne”, while at the same time being “one of his own” for Berezovsky. Yes, it was no mean assignment, and Abramovich coped with it successfully — an ideal “successor” was found.

Putin donates month’s salary to Jewish museum
Russian president promises to donate one month’s salary to construction of Russian Jewish Museum of Tolerance, saying, ‘This illustrates the strength of our multi-ethnic and multi-faith country’
Reuters Published: 06.06.07, 11:07 / Israel Jewish Scene
Russian President Vladimir Putin promised on Tuesday to contribute one month’s salary to the construction of a Jewish museum of tolerance.
Russia’s chief rabbi, Berl Lazar, told Putin it was time to implement long-delayed plans by the Jewish community to set up the museum.
Say what you will about Putin, but don't forget to be thankful that he continues to be one the main countervailing influences against Zionist US-Israeli plans to attack Iran, along with China. Putin also recognizes Hamas as a legitimate and democratically elected party, and has met with Hamas leaders.
Putin is well aware of the US ZOG situation and the undue influence of Jewish-Zionist interests in the executive branch of the US government. He's not stupid. He's not perfect, but he's no real enemy to the antiwar, anti-Zionist paradigm.
He's friendlier with Iran than he is with Israel. If Iran was brought in as a member of the SCO, which I'd like to see happen, the balance of power would move away from the Zionists.
Nonesuch: I don't wanna start shit with you again, but can I just politely request that you offer evidence of your claims from now on (in this case that Putin is Jewish).
We have touched upon the possibility that Putin is a 'double-agent' before.
And as was the general consensus/conclusion then, was that we will judge Putin by has concrete actions.
As COZ has pointed out, Putin is one of the strongest Anti-Zionist supporter.
-----------------------------
Regarding the photo with the skull-cap, I have seen that before.
It looks very FAKE, but either way this photo has been around for a while, BEFORE Putin attained the level of power that allows him to be independent of 'outside influence'.
In other words, I believe this photo (if real) was taken during the "Middle East Peace Talks" of the 1990s that the USA "organized".
Putin may have been pressured to wear it when he visited the 'wailing wall'. Much like one would adorn Islamic robes and cap when entering a 'holy mosque'.
-----------------------
But if anyone knows anything else, please enlighten the rest of us.
We really don't know for sure if Putin or Medvedev are jewish. We do know that they substantially lightened the Rothschild accounts by jailing Khorodkovsky and seizing Yukos. We do know that he has improved the standard of living after the rape of the former Soviet Union by the oligarchs.
This article is from Haaretz. What better way to discredit Medvedev than to accuse him of being a jew in a country where jews are very unpopular.
I'd suggest we search for an outside confirmation from somewhere besides ziostan's mouthpiece.
Another article in the ziostaniac press we should look at, but take with a grain of salt.
Certain things simply do not make any sense to me.
While I do believe that accusing Medvedev of being Jewish could be done in order to undermine his presidency, but is there a real prove that he is indeed Jewish?
Calling some leader a Jew, or a hidden Jew, is the best way to create panic among the masses.
Judging by the anti-Jewish (putting number of Jewish oligarchs in jail) and anti-US political role that Putin has taken, it simply does not make any sense to say that he's a Jew for sure.
The fact that he did not continue to bring the Russian economy to its knees, quickly improved the lives of most Russians and revived the Russian imagie and power around the world, does not seem to suggest that he might be a Jew because if he was a Jew, he would have continued destroying Russia further.
Although I do not ignore the idea that he might be a hidden Jew, his politics and his stance against the Russian- Jewish billionaires do not add up to that assumption.
In saying that, we would obviously know that Putin will never bring a Jew to become his successor, IF he's a Russian himself of course. Let's asume for a minute that he is indeed Russian, and based on his successful policies in Russia, would you say that is he that stupid to suddenly bring a Jew to the same post knowing what the same Jews (the oligarchs) did to Russia after the fall of Soviet Union?
As a Russian nationalist, which he sure is, why would he suddenly bring a Jewish guy to succeed his post?
So this is why I believe that neither of them can be Jewish, BUT I will not say that I am 100% confident about that.
Wouldn't they work agains the Russian progress in order to please the US & Israeli Zionists just in case if the Jew rumor was correct? Why have the Russian tough rethoric agains the West (including Israel) so often when Russia sees the US military bases surrounding its borders? Why the constant Russian retaliation threat to US in terms of what the US agenda is in the Middle East.
