Israel Arrests Outspoken Academic Norman Finkelstein

And the American academic Norman Finkelstein has been arrested and ordered deported from Israel. Finkelstein arrived in Tel Aviv earlier today on his way to the Occupied Territories. He was immediately detained and told he is banned from Israel for ten years. He’s expected to be deported tomorrow. Finkelstein is known one of the most prominent academic critics of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.

Yes, Norman Finkelstein is a guest of the State of Israel! IN PRISON!

He was denied entry to the country this morning, whisked away to a prison and will be deported tomorrow.

Finkelstein landed at Ben Gurion international airport near Tel Aviv in the early morning and was told by a representative of the ministry of interior that he would not be allowed into the country on ’security’ grounds, attorney Michael Sfard told dpa.

‘This usually means a 10-year ban on entry,’ Sfard added.

Finkelstein, who is Jewish and the son of Holocaust survivors, has written critical books on Israeli policies in the Palestinian territories and on what he called ‘exploitation’ of the Jewish tragedy during World War II.

Finkelstein has received with the fierce disapproval of some authors and academics, while others have praised his controversial works.

Let's see how the Jews spin this one

If was was to go to Israel tomorrow, I'd have to be at the airport a couple of hours early to go thru Israeli security.

So this holohoax defender goes thru that and still arrives in IsraHell and gets arrested.

Smell Bullshit here or we are starting to have an effect

Og, from what I have seen when travelling through Heathrow, Moscow, Rome and Frankfurt, Hell-Al has intensive security checks before checkin, but I am not so sure that they also operate border checks on foreign soil. As far as I know, the only nation that actually gets away with operating their border checks on foreign soil is the United States - like the border checks they carry out on Irish soil at Shannon Airport.

Maybe Norman didn't come on Hell Al...  He wasn't coming from the US anyway.  If I am or not mistaken, Norman was in Brussels where he was attending Naqba commemorations and participating  to the formation of some kind of new association (or parliament..) for the defense of Palestinian rights.  Several nationalities were present as well as Iranians... who played a prominent role..

There are rules to the "democracy" of the "island of democracy"...

In my part of the world,  you have to arrive several hours before the flight and everyone is interviewed

Not ever having gone to the Middle East's only demonocracy, and having no intention to do so, I wouldn't know the ins and outs. I was just hazarding a guess that the checks before getting on a flight are not as thorough as those carried out by the Stasi at Ben Gurion and this could explain why Finkelstein was turned back there, rather than before boarding.

Maybe the that "light unto democracy" in the ME got their wires crossed.

The Shin Bet was supposed to shoot Norman and arrest Blair.

Instead, they arrested Norman and almost shot down Blair's plane.

Damn, sure is hard keeping plans for liquidation of your enemies straight when you have so many enemies.

But very very close to it,  anyone travelling to Israel on an Israeli fight is interviewed by Israeli security prior to boarding the plane

One of the Comments :

Some people have objected to me using the word intruding aircraft since the flights were all domestic on 9/11. Fair enough, delete the word intruding, although had they been ready for intruders they would have handled 9/11 planes better. Actually the problem is more in the security at airports. US security personnel try to find out what’s in the passenger’s bag, Israeli security personnel through interviews try to find out what is in his head.

can't believe that hasn't gotten more attention. I wonder if it was an accident or if they were really going to kill him on purpose, knowing who it was.

My suggestion is you get around Israel by traveling from Egypt or Jordan to visit Gaza and West Bank, as long as you don't "step" on Israeli land (West Bank obviously pose a problem thanks to illegal settlements by Jewish extremists).

Wear a concealable bulletproof vest in case and stay out of IDF's sight. Foreign journalists and photographers were murdered by IDF in broad daylight. You might want to request Palestinian Authority or Hamas (legitimately elected government) to provide a security convoy to visit the occupied territories for humanitarian and educational purposes.

Dr Finkelstein, I have written about the subject of Zionism. I hope you enjoy reading "Eulogy before the Inevitability: The Decline and Death of Israel" written by me even if you do not agree with my assertions and even minor grammatical errors (I'm not a good copy editor).

The fact that Israel banished you on grounds of exercising your free speech criticizing Israeli policies proves beyond reasonable doubt it is not a democratic state and its "right of return" policy for Jews is hypocritically selective. It is an ethnocratic state gripped with paranoia and self-righteous delusion in asserting its influence over the Middle East and the West.

Good luck regaining the rights, as a traveler and an academic, so you can continue to assert free speech in quest for truth and justice.
