You are here
What will you do about me?
A 1980's remake (and rewrite) by the Irish band "Moving Hearts" of the song "What about me?" recorded by Quicksilver Messenger Service in the 1970's. Seems more appropriate than ever twenty/thirty years later.
You poisoned my sweet waters.
You cut down my green trees.
The food you fed my children
Was the cause of their ill disease.
My world is slowly fallin' down.
The air's not fit to breathe.
And those of us who care enough,
We've got to do something...
Your newspapers, they're just putting you on.
They never tell you the whole story.
They just put your young ideas down.
I was just wondering if this was the end
Of our pride and glory?
I worked in your factories.
I studied in your schools.
I lingered in your prisons
And your unemployment queue.
I feel the future trembling,
As the word gets passed around.
"If you stand up for what you believe in,
Be prepared to be shot down."
(Extended Chorus: What will you do about me?
I feel like a stranger
In the land where I was born.
I live like an outlaw. Always on the run...
You've got me always on the run. )
If your soldiers break the laws you make
You don't put them behind four walls.
Most of what you teach them to do
Is against your very own laws.
We are fugitives from injustice.
We are going to be free.
Plastic bullets, internment,
Don't do the things we need.
I know that you are the stronger now,
But nighttime will slip around.
You keep adding to my numbers
As you shoot my children down.
I can feel the future trembling
As the word gets passed around
"We will stand up for what we believe in.
We're prepared to be shot down".
