Here it is obvious that israel is to withdraw from the territories occupied in the recent conflict. If the territories became occupied "in the recent conflict", then the isrealis are to withdraw. Putting "all" in would be extraneous. It would not change the meaning of the area from which the israelis are to withdraw.

On the other hand, if Mel Gibson says "The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." That would have a different meaning from saying "All the Jews are responsible for the wars in the world."

So I am not "engaging in the exact same linguistic subterfuge utilized by the israeli state".

I think it was on this blog that I read a story about Palestinians who reported IDF soldiers knocking on their doors, and calling themselves "the Jews".

You can't have your soldiers calling themselves "the Jews", and a country proudly calling itself "the Jewish state", and then scratch your head and wonder why "the Jews" are blamed for that country's actions.

If one objects to another referring to israel as "the Jews", then one might want to rethink the idea of a Jewish state.

I think I may have reversed it - but the point still stands. The Israeli linguistic argument is that if territories was modified by "the" then a totality would have been indicated. However, since the language is merely, "territories" then the language shows a lack of specificity therefore, Israel is free to annex any areas it deems necessary to maintain a safe border.

If the resolution is ordering: "Withdrawal of Israel armed forces from territories occupied in the recent conflict", then israel would have to withdraw from any territories that their armed forces were not occupying prior to the recent conflict. That is the plain language.

Adding "the" doesn't change anything. Watch: "The withdrawal of the israel armed forces from the territories occupied in the recent conflict (the)." All those "the"s and nothing.

Mel Gibson should go over there and open up a can of whoop-ass, just like in Lethal Weapon 6.
