President-elect Barack Obama has reportedly chosen congressman Rahm Emanuel of Illinois to serve as his White House Chief of Staff.
Emanuel, a political and policy adviser to former president Bill Clinton and the fourth ranking Democrat in the House, is strongly considering the offer, Democratic sources reported.
The offer, Obama's first pick for his new administration, comes less than 24 hours after the Democrat's history-making victory over Republican John McCain -- racking up 349 electoral votes and counting.
Should Emanuel accept the position of the highest-ranking member of the Executive Office of the President of the United States, he would replace Joshua B. Bolten, the current White House Chief of Staff.
