There is no reason these ships could not be dismantled at dry dock where hazards could be contained and the work largely mechanised. No reason, apart from the fact that the owners of the ships are cheapskates who want the work done for little or nothing.

An intelligent species would design an efficient system for reusing and recycling shipping. Old ships would be cleanly chopped close to the smelters and shipyards that would be reusing the metal. Some should be sunk to create artificial reef foundation to improve fish stocks.
Right now there is a boom in ships being mothballed. There is no profit to be made because there is no demand for metal. And the sole reason for that is the false boom bust economic cycle controlled by the synagogue of satan.
But not to worry. All those hard working human beasts will be put to use in the sabbateans other favorite enterprise, pitting groups against each other like some giant cockfight.
