Senate to Consider AIPAC Resolution Endorsing War in Gaza - Take Action

Amnesty vs. AIPAC: Senate to Consider AIPAC Resolution Endorsing War in Gaza

The Senate could consider as early as today a resolution promoted by AIPAC that would effectively endorse the continuation of the Israeli military assault in Gaza.

Can you call your Senators now and urge them to oppose this resolution unless it is amended to call for an immediate ceasefire and lifting the blockade on Gaza? You can find the contact information and report back using the link below. (We've updated our alert to include information about the AIPAC bill.)

Last Friday Amnesty International USA sent an "urgent" letter to Secretary of State Rice, calling on her to end the Bush Administration's "lopsided response" [1] to the ongoing Israeli military attacks on Gaza that have reportedly killed more than 600 Palestinians, including some 200 children. [2] "Amnesty International USA is particularly dismayed at the lopsided response by the U.S. government to the recent violence and its lackadaisical efforts to ameliorate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza," the letter said. Amnesty urged the Bush Administration to "go beyond rhetoric and exert concrete pressure on both parties to immediately cease unlawful attacks."

Unfortunately, the U.S. Senate, at the urging of AIPAC, is poised to embrace the Bush Administration's "lopsided" and "lackadaisical" response. [3]

The AIPAC resolution does not call for an immediate ceasefire and does not call for lifting the blockade, even though the blockade is also an act of war.

Can you call your Senators now, and urge them to insist that any resolution passed by the Senate call for an immediate ceasefire and lifting the blockade on Gaza?

is shaped like the Star of David, say 95 out of 100 US Senators.

The Senate will gladly pass this resolution and tack on another which will rush thousands of tons of "aid," in the form of more bombs and weapons to Israel to replace the ones used in the Israeli Blitzkrieg of Gaza.

I don't mind sending emails, but I just find calling sickening. They all pretend to give a fuck & what not. I mainly posted this to spread the story that the sickos are actually going to have a resolution to endorse this thing.

At one time, I'd email or write and sometimes call my Senators or Reps to let them know my feelling on subjects.

When they would return the email or letter, they'd take my original concern out of content and shape it to fit what they were pushing and then thank me for supporting what I had been against to begin with.

The final straw was that Banker Bailout bill that my rep was getting swarmed with letters, emails, faxes and phone calls AGAINST the bailout and then she voted for it both times.

Unless you've got at least $10,000 dollars in small bills to "donate" to the rep, forget it, you're just wasting your time.

It's time for a more radical approach to getting attention from Congress.

Israeli Military Prevents Emergency Ambulance Care for Four Days

WASHINGTON, D.C. (January 8, 2009) -- Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) today made the following statement on the House floor calling attention to a report in the Washington Post that the International Committee of the Red Cross has accused the Israeli military of preventing ambulances from reaching at least 15 emaciated people for four days:

“What is going on in America? We have trillions for a war machine and banks while our government stands by and sniffs at the slaughter of innocents in Gaza, where Israel is blocking aid for wounded Palestinians. Here’s today’s Washington Post it says: The International Committee of the Red Cross said Thursday that it found at least 15 bodies and several children, emaciated but alive - - in a row of shattered houses in the Gaza strip and accused the Israeli military of preventing ambulances from reaching the site for four days. ...12 corpses lying on mattresses in one home, along with four young children lying next to their dead mothers." That’s a quote

“Today U.S. tax dollars, U.S. jets and U.S. helicopters provided to Israel are enabling the slaughter in Gaza. The Administration enables Israel to press forward with the attack against defenseless civilians; blocks efforts promoting a cease-fire at the UN; and refuses to make Israel comply with conditions that arms shipments not be used for aggression. Israel is going to receive $30 billion in a ten-year period for military assistance, without having to abide by any humanitarian principles, international laws or standards of basic human decency. Wake up America.”
