Ass-Backwards in the Middle East: Israel and the Palestinians Through the Looking Glass

Let’s be honest. The Israeli story doesn’t merely distort the truth, it turns the truth ass-backwards. Eerily enough, its basic claims about the Palestinians more accurately describe the Israelis themselves.

Donor Bread (Money) and Congressional Circuses

Most of Congress is ignorant about the real nature of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and about the real consequences of American foreign policy relative to it. That ignorance is sustained by the fact that the U.S. information environment relating to the conflict is still largely controlled by the Zionists. For instance, much of the briefing material on the issue going to Congressional members is produced by AIPAC and allied Zionist organizations, the State Department has been purged of anyone sympathetic to the Palestinians or the Arabs in general, the media remains almost uniformly biased in favor of Israel, and finally,  for the politicians, ignorance is underwritten by that 24% of their campaign contributions. It also helps enormously that this ignorance is shared by the American public at large.

US President Barack Obama says the US's relationship with Israel is as strong as it has ever been, but is that really so? Global unpopularity wearing down Israeli government

Benjamin Netanyahu's advisers conceded last week that the Israeli prime minister is more downcast than they have ever seen him. The reason for his gloominess is to be found in Israel's diplomatic and strategic standing, which some analysts suggest is at its lowest ebb in living memory.

Jewish aid convoy sets sail for Gaza

A relief mission entirely composed of Jewish human rights campaigners has set sail from northern Cyprus to break Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip.

The activists, who are of Israeli, German, British and American nationalities, departed for the coastal sliver on Sunday, AFP reported.

Earlier in the year, Israeli commandos attacked the Freedom Flotilla, a Turkish-backed aid convoy carrying aid supplies to Gaza. The assault in international waters killed nine Turkish activists on board the fleet's lead vessel, MV Mavi Marmara.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Andy David called the Jewish cause "a provocative joke that isn't funny."

Lebanese flotilla to sail to Gaza

Following new border conflict between Israel and Lebanon, an all-women aid ship will set sail for the Gaza Strip this weekend to deliver aid to the coastal region. The ship, named the "Mariam" in honor of the Virgin Mary, will carry a group of nuns from the US along with female doctors and lawyers. "They are nuns, doctors, lawyers, journalists, Christians and Muslims," Mona, one of the participants, told the British newspaper, the Guardian. The mission comes after Israel's ambassador to the UN, Gabriela Shalev, issued a warning that Tel Aviv would use "all necessary measures" to stop the vessel.

Time to bury dead ideas about Palestine

There is a growing recognition that the Israeli settlement enterprise in the Occupied Palestinian Territories is, in practical terms, irreversible.
